It's the Summer of 2013, and it marks the day of my first smoothie video on youtube.  I filmed it, I shot it, I edited it.  It's called How To Make a Green Smoothie and we go step-by-step.  It was so fun doing something I was so incredibly nervous to do.  However, I felt I had to shoot this smoothie video so I could show you how easy smoothies can be.  How nutritious they are, and how some foods mask the tastes so you can get all the good veggies and nutrients into your body.

If you've been reading along you know that I ADORE making smoothies.  I fell in love with the concept of liquid nutrition when I was studying holistic nutrition at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition.  The idea that we can give our digestion a break, and flood nutrients into our bodies while drinking a shake that tastes like chocolate was something I was quite intrigued by.  And the idea that we can put so many veggies into one smoothie and not taste a thing but goodness was wild.
*

What veggies are loaded into this smoothie?

  • Spinach
  • Celery
  • Cucumber
  • Avocado.  But if you really know fruit trivia you'll know that avocado is actually a fruit.

Do you taste the veggies?

Nope.  Never.  Definitely not with this smoothie.  There are many foods in this smoothie that will mask the taste of these veggies.  In fact not only will it mask the taste but you'll be shocked so much is in it while tasting so good.

How to mask veggies in this smoothie?

  • Vanilla extract or vanilla pods
  • Agave syrup, or maple syrup
  • Frozen bananas
  • Nut or seed butter
  • Cacao or chocolate

Benefits of smoothies

  • Boost of nutrients
  • Floods of energy
  • Ingestion of healthy fats, veggies, and protein all at once
  • Gives your digestive system a break
  • Hydrating
  • Filling

How is the smoothie consistency?

  • Thick
  • Creamy
  • Just like a milkshake, sans dairy
  • Cold like ice cream

Tips:

  • If you need a step-by-step demo of this smoothie check out my Youtube video on how to make this smoothie.
  • Don't like coconut milk?  You can use any plant milk you want such as almond, cashew, hemp, quinoa, macadamia milk.
  • Cannot have peanut butter?  Use a seed butter like sunflower seed butter, or sunbutter, or pumpkin seed butter, or even hemp seed butter.
