This chocolate chai smoothie is loaded with all the good stuff, not just the sweet stuff, and a few hidden vegetables!  Sweetened with banana, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg, sans ginger!  The smoothie tastes like a milkshake minus the dairy, and minus the mucus, but plenty chocolaty.

I've been tapping into my allergy-friendly smoothie mind to bring you this Chocolate Chai Smoothie sans ginger, and dairy!  It's so hard to find your favorites when you have so many food sensitivities and allergies.  And hard is an understatement.  A chai smoothie unless made in my kitchen would be hard to find store-bought, sans ginger.  Whenever I look for anything store-bought chai from tea to milk, and even chocolate chai, I find myself having to put it back because Ginger is usually an ingredient in the product ingredient list.
*
For many years I allowed my food intolerances to rule my life, and it always made me feel so sad.  I would walk around with a stamp on my forehead that told my life story and what I couldn't have.  It was my focus for a long time.
*
I then realized if I continued to walked around with that attitude all the time I'd be depressed.  Instead, I choose to be inspired to create foods that nourished my body sans ginger, and sans allergies.  That mindset shift changed my life!  And I know that it can for you too.  I now bring to you the best Chocolate Chai Smoothie in the world by experimenting with new and old spices that I once never gave a chance.
*

Essential spices for everything Chai

  • organic nutmeg
  • organic cinnamon
  • organic cardamom
  • organic clove - optional
  • vanilla
  • ginger - but if you have an allergy or a sensitivity OMIT!  You don't need it.  You can make up for it with the other spices.

*

A food sensitivity or allergy is a limitation.  If you choose to look at it that way it will be true.  And it can limit your life if you view it as a bad limitation.  However, if you choose to see the foods you cannot have as gifts to unlock new flavor portals it will be that way too.
*
You get to decide.

Keyword: banana, broccoli, cacao, cinnamon, cucumber, dairy-free, easy, healthy drinks, nutmeg, quick, vegan breakfast
Servings: 1 16oz smoothie
Author: Julie Rosenthal

Equipment

  • high-speed blender

Ingredients

  • 1 cup coconut milk or hemp milk
  • ½ cup raw frozen broccoli
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • ½ cup frozen skinless cucumber
  • 1 medium-sized whole frozen banana
  • 1 handful spinach
  • 1 ¼ tablespoon raw cacao or cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
  • small pinch nutmeg
  • small pinch cardamom
  • 3-4 ice cubes

Instructions

  • In a high-speed blender blast the broccoli and milk together, until almost liquid.
  • Add the chia seeds to the liquid mixture while you prep all the other ingredients. This allows the smoothie mixture to thicken.
  • Next, add all other ingredients (minus the ice) until well blended and creamy.
  • Following, add the ice for one more blend and serve with a spoon or a straw.

Notes

  • If you want a thicker smoothie add ¼ to ½ cup cooked sweet potato, 1 tablespoon of gluten-free oats, 1 tablespoon of almond butter, or ¼ of an avocado.
  • To make this smoothie thinner add more milk of choice.

Health, and good smoothies!
