How To Develop A Positivity Practice In 3 Ways

Published: Jun 1, 2016 · Modified: Jan 11, 2021 by Julie Rosenthal · Leave a Comment

Sharing is caring!

Ever since I was opened up to my spiritual path, I have been trying to focus on positivity.  I want more of it in my life.  I want to see life from a different perspective.  I want to feel differently, happier and more balanced.  I want to feel as if my path and what is happening to me health wise is happening for me, instead of happening to me.

And I know a LOT of other people who want to feel this way too.  Who want to feel unstuck.  Who are stuck in feeling more negativity in life then positivity, and don't know how to fix it.   In comes learning how to develop a positivity practice in 3 ways.  And in comes "The Tool Box".

3 ways to become more positive

So here's the deal.  First and foremost - POSITIVITY IS A PRACTICE.  Please recite this, because we are all human, and by inviting more positivity into your life as a practice does not mean you will never ever feel negative feelings, or want to cry or feel angry or frustrated ever again. Every single person on this planet has bad days and good days too.  We are not meant to strive for perfection, rather instead strive for a peaceful experience.  We are here on this planet to experience more good then bad.  We are here to experience joy.

A few weeks ago a new client told me he should be more positive.  And it was in that moment, that I realized just how much positivity IS a practice, rather then a decision.  It is not like we are going to roll out of bed one day and suddenly decide that we will be positive people for the rest of our lives and call it a day.  As many coaches do preach this point of view, I am coming forward as a Coach myself and telling you that you have to do the work to get out of the place you are in, you have to work out your shit, resolve feelings that you have buried down deep, accept the challenge (if you have any, whether it be heartbreak, medical, health, job, career, marriage, control, etc), accept where you are right now (no matter how bad or how good), and START.

Inviting positivity into your life is a wonderful thing, but it can also be frustrating, as is learning a new language, traveling to a foreign country, learning meditation, getting in shape, sticking to a diet or even learning how to ride a bike.  All of these experiences are practices and all of them bring you joy and delicious feel good benefits.  And so is inviting the practice of positivity into your life.

And the more you invite the idea of a positive practice into your life by choosing to engage in activities that will bring you more joy, the more concrete it gets in your life.  The more you choose to SEE from a different perspective the MORE the way you see will change.  The more open you are to change, feeling and accepting, the more you are attracted to flow, and the more attracted you are to flow, the more positivity and opportunity will attract back to you.  Positivity, or the practice of positivity will become more engraved into your daily activity, like brushing your teeth, it will become PART OF YOUR PROCESS.  And the more you are open to this process, the more light you will spread onto others who also want, crave and need your light.  The benefit of bringing more positivity into your life is that LIGHT you so dearly seek.  That effortless light that will bring you and your soul to a place of balance, kindness, warmth and love.  That effortless light you see in other's that you want.  You can't buy those benefits, you have to feel them.

You have a purpose here on this planet.  You are here to be of service and shine your light, so that others can feel it too.  The benefit is like a boomerang.  Your light benefits you, and all the others that surround you, and even the people on the outskirts of your perimeter.  You never know how your light will affect others for the greater good.  For all you know your smile could light up a hundred faces you didn't even realize you affected.  And the Universe will see this.  The Universe see's this as you taking action and moving forward and when you move forward...That's when the Universe steps up.

News Flash, the Universe wants to see you succeed.  In fact the Universe is always here to work with you and help you.  But the catch is, is that you have to be willing to meet the Universe halfway and do the work on your end.  Show the Universe your light, determination and action, and the Universe will give you the world.

There is a book I HIGHLY recommend for anyone that needs or wants to understand how the Universe works with us, and why learning, lessons and missions on our paths are so important, even if they aren't the path we desire.  It's a short book called The Alchemist, and It's one of my favorite books of all time, and a book I will read during different times of my life.  This is not a book you will read once and leave on a dusty shelf.  This is a lessons book.  A treasure book.  A book of gold.  Get The Alchemist Book Here!

Here are 3 EASY steps to begin and maintain your positivity practice

  1. Affirm to the Universe that you want to be more positive, and invite positivity into your life.  Affirming it can be anything from writing it down on a piece of paper and taping it to your window, to journaling in a notebook about how you want to feel if you invite positivity in, to meditating on the thought for a few minutes a day or even creating a vision board around how you want to feel and what your life would look like if you actually became more positive. Visualize and see the changes you are making before you make them.  See them, feel them - get to know the benefits you will get out of doing this.  And then write down the benefits you would gain.  If you know there will be benefits on the other side of creating a practice, we as humans are more motivated to start.
  2. Begin your day with a daily practice or end your evening with a nightly practice of writing down 3 things in a gratitude journal that you are grateful for and why.  It can be anything!  It can be an experience, a thing, a person.  It can be big or even very small.  As long as you get specific on why you are grateful for that thing, experience or person then you are set.  And you will write down 3 things every day.  It's good to start a practice so that it becomes your norm and once it becomes the norm, you won't want to start or end your day without a daily practice.  This was one of the BIGGEST shifts for me.  I started to feel better about myself.  I had more confidence.  I became more friendly to strangers.  I had more compassion.  I wasn't so agitated when lines were slow, and people were rude.  And I started to notice things falling in my favor continuously.  It's like I was consistently winning at the slot machines in Vegas in small ways and big ways.  Things were becoming more aligned.  The shoe sale I was dying to go to that I missed extended one more day, and that is the day I happened to go in and I got an extra 30% off the already 50% off the boots I was dying to buy! Had I gone the day before, the extra 30% off wouldn't have been honored.  A few days later the super in my building gave me a FREE 90$ laundry card.  I mean what are the odd's?!  These are just two small examples of the shifts I began to feel.  More people began to feel and see my light.  It's what people say to me these days.  I like your light.  Focusing on gratitude, even if it's just 3 small things a day invites more positivity into your life.  It's the Universe's way of saying " I see you are meeting me half-way, let's co create together".  My two favorite gratitude journals are:  The Simple Gratitude Journal and The Five Minute Journal  (and for some reason amazon doesn't have a picture of it, but it's the cheapest there.  So you can google what it looks like if needed).
  3. Know your tools so you can shift your perspective.  You don't have to use the same tools daily.  In the beginning it is best to create a daily practice using one tool.  And as you develop yourself and create a ritual you can choose a different tool.  The idea is to create an imaginary tool box where you keep a roster of "tools" you can use daily, weekly, montly...such as meditation, yoga, angel cards, tarot cards, vision boards, gratitude journals, journaling, fitness, adult coloring books, EFT/Tapping, stretching, nature walks, dancing, positive affirmation cards and other self-care practices.  When I say tool box, I am referring to these practices.  Create your tool box so that when you get to that place of negativity, frustration, agitation, anger, sadness, you can raise your vibration with the tools you have put in your tool box, that you already know how to use, and know they benefit you in a positive way.  These tools will help you shift your perspective quickly and support you.  They also shift your energies, which in turn moves the negative stuck energies out and brings in the positive energies and balances out your feelings. Sometimes your energies can get blocked inside your body, simply using a self-care tool from your tool box, can unblock that energy within minutes and allow flow.  When you have blocks in your body, you feel it both on the inside and the outside.  Even simply dancing to your favorite song, swaying with the tunes closing your eyes and belting out the words, inhaling the memories that are associated with that song can shift your energy fast and bring in the positivity.  The tools you have in your "tool box" help you unblock negative energy and re-invites positive flow.

Being conscious of your behavior and knowing how you want to feel is the start. Keeping it up daily is how the practice is maintained.
